Halibut

The Pacific Halibut is the largest of all flatfish species and can grow up to 8 feet long, 4 feet across and weigh over 600 pounds. Halibut were originally named "haly-butte" in Middle English, meaning - "the flatfish to be eaten on holy days." These fish are long-line caught, primarily in the waters of Alaska and British Columbia. The International Pacific Halibut Commission regulates the fishing of Halibut by quota system, a model for fisheries to manage the sustainability of this species.
